Cap and Gown

Jay Michael has been attending the local Baptist church's preschool program - Wee Care - and he loves it.  It's mornings, three days a week, and they cover letters, numbers, feelings, Bible stories, sharing, etc...  He's been to birthday parties for pretty little girls, participated in two programs (Christmas and spring) and he has made some good little friends.

Finally, it's time to graduate.  He has really progressed this year.  I truly believe that preschool is just a structured playtime.  I didn't expect him to come out of it understanding calculus.  He has played and laughed and learned and painted and colored and played and cut and pasted and built and planted and played and read and listened and learned to walk in a line.  Mission accomplished.  Now it's time to move on to school.

These are his Cap and Gown Photos.  I didn't buy these pictures.  It's not like I didn't want to buy them; they are precious.  It's just that money is tight, and I can take my own pictures.  Well, when I didn't sign up to have his pictures taken with the rest of his class, the director of the school asked me why not.  I told her.  The next day, she called me into her office.  She said that the photographer this year is her daughter, who has not taken a school picture like this before.  She wanted to practice on a model.  Would Jay Michael be interested?  I said, Sure!  For his time and modeling, he would get three proofs for free.  Yay!  I love it when life falls into place.

These are the results.  I love them!  Congratulations, Jay Michael.

The photographer is Abby Malone.  You can see more of her work here.  I think she did an amazing job capturing this moment in Jay Michael's sweet young life.  Thank You, Abby!

Junk Yard Dogs Spring 2013

Jay Michael has been practicing with his soccer team for about a month now.  He loves it.  I mean, we have to drag him off the field after practice, loves it.  Loves it.  He has the same coaches and almost the same team as the fall season.  The first game was today and Jay Michael scored two goals, plus he had some great passes and assists.  It will be another fantastic season at the soccer fields!

Rachel, Economic Wonder

Rachel (ninth grade) has been busy lately, and she never saw it coming.  In her economics class one day there was a test.  It was a trial for the Arkansas Economics Challenge - a competition for economics students.  She did her best and never thought of it again.  Until last week, when her Econ teacher asked her what size shirt she wore - cause she made the team!?  What?  Rachel was stunned.  She even admits that she guessed at some of the answers.  This picture is from the regional championship - Rachel is in the blue shirt in the front and her three teammates from the junior high team are the other three girls on her side of the photo.  The other junior high team (the other four in the picture) took first place at this regional challenge and will advance to the state tournament.

In a field of 15 schools, Rachel's team took third - WOW!  Way to go, Rachel!

Isn't this normal?

Josephine swears that Jay Michael was ok with this.  He kinda looks like he's smiling under the tape.  Josephine says he is fine; she left a hole for his nose.  Truthfully, though, Jay Michael was a little upset with me when I freed him.

Subway at Sunrise

The lighting in this picture is bad.  There's a reason.  See how the light coming through the subway window is looking like the early morning dawn?  Well, it wasn't quite dawn, but, it was early.  Subway is our favorite place to eat.  So we were there at 7 am when they opened.  They are currently running a promotion.  The deal is this:  buy a six inch sub, get a six inch sub free.  FREE.  I like free.  The catch is that you have to order before 9 am.  We ordered ten subs, so we covered breakfast for everyone and lunch for three of us.  Awesome.  And they were ready to go first thing in the morning.  Bonus!
