Are Those Bicycles?

We live in a rural town in central Arkansas. The people here are genuine, friendly and honest. This one, though is bizarre. Anyone want to guess why our town strung bicycles up on all the light poles? All the poles in the municipal area have two bikes a piece and some have lights in the wheels. What's this all about? I don't know the answer; I'm just wondering if anyone else does....

8 screams from the fans...:

I have no idea. I would like to have seen that. All I can think of is that they want everyone riding bikes, you know to be green and all. Let me know when you find out. Strange!

BTW, LOVE your family pic on your blog!

Your family picture is very cute! Love how the height of the kids dips down in the center! I also wonder why the bikes are being used to decorate with instead of helping other people have their own to ride or something. Sounds funny though! Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Here's what I think... Cabot has a new thing this year "A New Year ~A New You fitness initiative. I think they are trying to encourage us to ride bikes. I hate to think of brand new bikes hanging from light post all year so maybe those are bikes that they have recovered? I don't know. When we were moving here I was so excited to be able to ride my bike and take my kids places and save gas (having moved here from a very very bike friendly town) and then I got here. Cabot is anything but bike friendly. Maybe in neighborhoods but not on any of the main roads. I could ramble on and on and on...

Hee Hee Hee. Go to cabotar.gov and click on the bikes at the top and it will offer links to places to get exercise in Cabot. I believe most of them are recovered bikes. There was a 30 second spot about it on the 10 o'clock news, on New Years Eve. I actually had the honor of sitting in on the meeting with the Mayor about his plan to get Cabot folks moving :) by hanging bikes in place of the Christmas decorations.

Right. The sign haging on the bikes is the town's website and it talks about "a healthier you in 2010". Oh. Got my attention.

I LOVE it when Krista comments - she's been to a town council meeting, ya know...

I will bring the ladder and help you reclaim your stolen bike from the light poles, Megan!

And why is your comment from Anonymous?
